After completion of Post Graduation Diploma from FTII, Pune Mita Chakraborty got further training as a Video Technologist at MAGICA , Italy. After a brief stint as a freelance editor for various documentaries, corporate and ad-film projects for Door Darshan and other various production houses, Mita Chakraborty Joined as Faculty In Charge of Editing Department of RoopkalaKendro (Post Graduate Institute of Film and Social Communication under the Information and Cultural Affairs Dept; Govt of West Bengal). She is still continuing as the senior most faculty member in the Editing Department. Her responsibilities cover training and mentoring of Post Graduate Diploma students along with developing, restructuring and updating of curriculum as and when required.

As an accomplished film academician she is a regular invitee as an expert member for selection process and curriculum upgradation programme for Satyajit Ray Film Institute and as guest lecturer for various film courses (including the Film Appreciation Course, organised by Information and Cultural Affairs Dept., Govt. Of West Bengal). In 2022 she was involved as one of the designers of course curriculum of the said course. She was invited to take master class in MIFF, Meghalaya.

Along with teaching Mita Chakraborty has edited three feature films, several short films , non fiction television programs, corporate and commercials. The films "Pendulam" and “Meherjaan” were critically acclaimed.

“Meherjaan” bagged awards at Tiburon Film Festival, California and Moondunce Film Festival along with a host of other Awards.

Her directorial endeavours includes ‘sonamatilona jol’, a documentary film on the embankment issue of the Sundarbans, which was made with the unique participatory approach. Her recent work as editor and co-director is a documentary film Crowd We Gather Ramp We Walk, based on KS Radhakrishnan, one of the most significant contemporary sculptor of India. This film was screened in IDSFK 2024 as part of focus long documentary section.

After almost twenty two years of teaching and twenty six years of professional experience , I still remain a keen student of cinema and manage to keep my curiosity alive. I feel extremely happy and proud of my students who are successfullyworking all over India - That’s how Mita looks at her illustrious career presently.
